Blue Ribbon Horse Farm

Offering full-care and self-care board for all your horses.

Located on one of the most beautiful areas of the country, in the heart of the Bluegrass, off Paris Pike, in Lexington, Kentucky. Blue Ribbon Farm is very close to the Kentucky Horse Park and Masterson Station, and 15 minutes from UK campus.

Owner is a veterinarian and incorporates her knowledge and training into keeping animals healthy and well-taken care of. This includes the feeding of only high quality hay and concentrate, and keeping the farm well maintained to decrease the chances for injuries.

We are an all-breed, all-discipline facility, specializing in the care of retired geriatric horses, who need a calm and quiet place to live. Horses thrive in an environment where they know what to expect. Therefore, we are big on routine daily management, as we consider these older horses our precious citizens.

We live on farm, which allows us to see these horses multiple times a day and catch any issues early on.

In the winter, we personally do night checks at about 9-10 PM every night to make sure everyone has enough hay and water to go through the night. This is the only boarding facility that offers this service included in your monthly boarding fee.

In the winter, horses are in at night and out during the day. They go out at about 5:30 AM, and back in at about 5 PM. In the summer, they are brought in at about 5:30 AM, and out at about 5 PM. Each stall has a fan, which is on during the summer.

We feed according to each individual horse’s needs: some horses need more or less hay, and more or less concentrate feed, according to their body condition score. Some barns feed only a limited amount of hay per horse and charge owners for extra hay. We strongly disagree with that practice, especially for hard keepers. For the easy-keepers, we feed their hay in slow eating hay nets to prolong their chewing time, and a ration balancer.
